Can you recommend a good book?

I'm taking a short fiction class, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm tragically under-read in terms of short stories. So, if you could recommend one collection that everyone should read, something you love, that moved you, that's well-written or innovative, that you think exemplifies the craft ... what would it be?

Comments:
The most recent collection I've read is The View From Castle Rock by Alice Munro. I'm not a huge short story fan, but I liked these, particularly the way they are woven together to create a larger narrative.

Mate! Black Juice by Margo Lanagan. Read 'Singing My Sister Down'. Your life will never be the same again.

Try Claire Keegan -- I think the title is Walking the Blue Fields. Just marvelous. And William Trevor -- Cheating at Canasta is terrific. I think I've loved every Munro collection, esp. Friend of My Youth. It's such a wonderful genre and there are so many truly fine collections.

That is such a tough question. I still can't offer a decent response. I'm reading Bix's Trumpet and Other Stories by Dave Margoshes right now and savoring it. It takes me forever to read a collection. And my taste is all over the map. That's why I'm enjoying the latest TNQ and CNQ issues so much. It's introducing me to new-to-me short story writers, Rebecca Rosenblum, whose new collection Once has just been released, being one of the highlights.

Thank you all for the suggestions. *tucks them in her list of things to read*
